He just didn't like sweetcorn.Gemma, 33, says it’s surprising what children like and dislike.
“When they’re really young I think it’s a bit of a surprise to find that babies actually have taste preferences. Honestly, before I had Luke I thought you could pretty much give any food in any food combination to a baby. Like baby food was Banana and Carrot or something. But it was funny, some of the jars of baby food he wouldn’t touch and it turned out to be ones with sweetcorn in them. He just didn’t like sweetcorn.
“Tastes of kids are quite surprising though. Now he’s a bit older he loves olives which always really surprises everyone.
Then his eyes would go really wide and he'd shake his head.“The funniest first taste sensation though has to have been ice cream. You could see in his little face that he really didn’t know what to make of it. He’d taste it, then there’d be a slight pause, then his eyes would go really wide and he’d shake his head and look at you like he was in shock. Then a moment later he’d be after some more, it was really funny.
“A lot of the finger foods that he liked seemed really more to do with gnawing away at something rather than the actual taste. When he first got a few teeth through he’d love to chew a big fat carrot stick that had been in the fridge. It was nice and cold and hard, so great for teething.”

It really used to beak my heart to see her skin all broken and it really irritated her.
